When you open your module and you see this single board, you have the later version HFM.  Some versions have the EPROM soldered directly to the board, and some have a socket for the chip.  These can be tuned with 2.8L, 3.2L and 3.6L base mapping.  WOT fueling can be enrichened, and the WOT ignition map can be tuned for a more aggressive curve.  Part throttle timing maps can also be tuned more aggressively.  Part throttle fueling is recommended to be left untuned unless significant engine modifications have been done.  The part throttle fueling, as mapped by Mercedes, provides excellent drivability.    In offroad/race applications EGR can also be tuned out.
